Nonsurgical drainage of alignant obstructive jaundice is an interesting altenative to surgical drainage in the palliative treatment of pancreaticobiliary neoplasm. Biliary drainage by endoprosthesis is as effective and better supported than percutaneous external drainage, but more hard difficult to control. Forty-two cases with biliary or pancreatic carcinoma treated by endoprosthesis, ERBD, were followed up by ultrasonogram. Ultrasonic monitoring was useful in the demonstrations of the effectiveness of drainage and the detection of the endoprosthetic dysfunction. Consequently the ultrasonogram may be considered as a valuable method to complement the biochemical tests in the monitoring of biliary endoprosthesis.
