『케이팝 데몬 헌터스』의 기호학적 이중성과 혼종성 연구 : 비판적 한국문화교육으로의 적용 가능성을 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 넷플릭스 애니메이션 『케이팝 데몬 헌터스(K-pop: Demon Hunters)』를 대상으로, K-pop 산업의 신화적 담론 구조와 그 균열 양상을 밝히는 것을 목적으로 한 다. 연구 방법으로는 퍼스(Charles S. Peirce)의 기호학, 바르트(Roland Barthes)의 신 화이론, 바바(Homi K. Bhabha)의 탈식민 혼종성 개념을 결합한 통합적 분석 틀을 적 용하였다. 구체적으로 색채 상징 체계, 호작도 모티프 등 텍스트 내 기호 체계를 중심 으로 신화의 재현과 전복 과정을 분석하였다. 그 결과, 작품은 아이돌의 자기희생과 팬 소비라는 지배적 신화를 재생산하면서도, 혼종적 전략을 통해 그 이데올로기를 교란하 는 기호학적 이중성을 드러낸다. 특히 디아스포라적 창작자의 시선에서 형성된 혼종적 서사는 한국 전통 기호와 글로벌 장르 문법의 결합을 통해 문화적 협상이 이루어지는 ‘제3의 공간’을 구축하는 것으로 해석되었다. 이러한 분석을 토대로 본 연구는 학습자 를 수동적 소비자에서 비판적 의미 생산자로 전환시키는 ‘비판적 문화 문식성(critical cultural literacy)’ 함양 교육 모형을 제안하였다. 이는 K-pop 연구 대상을 2차 텍스트 로 확장하고 문화이론과 교육실천을 연계함으로써, 글로벌 미디어 시대의 필수적인 시 민 역량을 기르는 한국문화교육의 미래적 비전을 제시한다는 점에서 학술적 시사점을 지닌다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study examines how K-Pop: Demon Hunters constructs cultural meaning through its multimodal interplay of sound, image, and narrative within the global K-pop mediascape. The research aims to clarify the work’s ideological operations and addresses three questions: (1) what semiotic strategies organize its meaning-making; (2) how these strategies negotiate globallocal identities; and (3) how the findings can inform critical Korean culture education. Methodologically, the study applies an integrated framework combining Peirce’s triadic semiotics, Barthes’s myth analysis, and Bhabha’s hybridity theory. Through close reading and multimodal analysis, it investigates the animation’s musical textures, symbolic imagery, and performance conventions as interconnected sign systems. The analysis shows that the work generates hybrid meanings by merging ritualistic sound design, mythic motifs, and K-pop aesthetics, producing both immersion and critical distance. This dynamic reveals how the text negotiates power, identity, and cultural authenticity in transnational media contexts. The study concludes that such semiotic complexity provides meaningful foundations for cultivating critical cultural literacy in Korean culture education.
