티벳문헌에 기술된 호탄불교

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고에서는 티벳문헌에 나타난 호탄불교 관련 내용을 검토하고자 한다. 이러한 작업을 진행하기 위해 가장 오래된 『바셰(dBa’ bzhed)』 버전에 기술된 내용, 둔황 출토 티벳사본인 『호탄국불교사(리율최끼로귀 Li yul chos kyi lo rgyus, Pelliot Tibetain 960)』에 기술된 내용, 그리고 『호탄국의 역사(리율기로귀 Li yul gyi lo rgyus, D4202.168b1-188a7)』에 기술된 내용 중 호탄불교 관련 일부 구문을 비교해서 고찰할 것이다. 이를 통해 티벳문헌에 나타난 호탄불교 관련 내용의 상호 불일치에 대한 몇 가지 실례를 소개하고자 한다. 아울러 호탄불교를 연구함에 있어서 호탄의 地名, 人名, 寺院名 등과 관련한 티벳어 음가는 중요한 역할을 가진다고 할 수 있다. 왜냐하면 호탄과 관련된 地名 등 古音 관련 음운체계와 관련해서 인접국가 혹은 僻地에 남아있는 음가를 찾아냄으로써 어느 정도 당시의 소릿값을 찾아낼 수 있기 때문이다. 그리고 티벳문헌과 둔황 출토 티벳사본 간의 호탄불교 관련 내용 중 공통적인 부분과 불일치하는 부분을 어느 정도 솎아낼 수 있다면, 원형적인 형태의 호탄불교 관련 기술을 일정 부분이나마 복원할 수 있을 것이다. 그러므로 본고는 티벳문헌과 연관된 호탄불교 관련 연구의 또 다른 출발점이라고 할 수 있을 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article aims to present a comparative investigation of Khotanese Buddhism in Tibetan literature. For this investigation, the contents of the oldest version of dBa’ bzhed, the contents of the Religious Annals of Khotan (Li yul chos kyi lo rgyus, Pelliot Tibetain 960), and the partial paragraphs about Khotanese Buddhism in the Annals of Khotan (Li yul gyi lo rgyus, D4202.168b1-188a7) are examined comparatively. This work introduces a few exemplary but contrasting passages about Khotanese Buddhism in Tibetan literature. In addition, the value of Tibetan pronunciation in the names of regions, people, and temples within Khotan should be recognized, since the discovery of phonetic descriptions from adjacent countries or remote regions in relation to the phonetic system for the ancient pronunciation of Khotanese characters might, to some degree, facilitate the ascertainment of the ancient pronunciation. Further, by segregating the common and uncommon contents between the texts from Tibet and the Tibetan manuscripts from Dunhuang relating Khotanese Buddhism, it may be possible to reconstruct a description of Khotanese Buddhism in its original form. Therefore, this article could be a new starting point for the study of Khotanese Buddhism in relation to Tibetan literature.
