The purpose of this study was to analyze and investigate the actual child abuses found in homes and the seriousness of the abuses through research studies and various statistical data.
home violence can be defined as acts of physical, mental, verbal and sexual harassment done by family members including lodging family members. since our really has it that the proper definition and extent of child abuses has yet to be established, a definition of child abuse is suggested in this study, believing on the importance of the need to establish a general consensus on the definition of child abuse.
Child abuse is physical and mental harassment done by an individual, social, or institutional fosterer who is responsible for protecting the child, but rather prevents the healthily development of the or neglects the child in a situation that can disturb the child physical mental developments. In other words, it can be largely divided into physical abuse, mental abuse, sexual abuse and negligence.
The reasons for child abuse can be attributed to psycho pathos logical and development viewpoint that emphasizes the individual characteristics, social psycho logical viewpoint that considers the social environmental characteristics and ecological viewpoint which emphasizes the interaction between each factors.
In terms of life development viewpoint, child abuse is a problem that develops through interactions of the development relation between the parent and child and with the surrounding environment. Other than the ecological environment that induces child abuse, it is caused by the failure of accomplishing their goals.
In present child abuse status, there is no agreed definition on child abuse or extent or measuring instrument and there is a big difference in how the researchers see child abuse. However, from the statistics, we can easily see how serious the actual cases of assaults, negligence, and verbal violence are.
The results of these abuses are not only headaches, abdominal pains, insomnia but the mental laid of confidence that can bring passive, attactive and destructive actions. As a result of studying the relationship between abused children and misconducts, these symptoms are not only found in individual children but when the higher the frequency and degree of abuse, children tended to run away from their homes. Misconducts can mostly find its factor in runaways and showed a significance in their relation.
As a mean to prevent and treat child abuse, communities with high tendency of child abuse must be found. Then intensive prevention exercises must be carried and not to mention, it is also necessary to improve the social conditions that act as a factor for triggering child abuse. Increasing foster homes and temporary child care facilities for treatment and rehabilitation is most important. Installing a hot line, wide variety of counseling and treatment services must also be extended.
And, when cases of child abuse are found and reported, instance intervention is required and treatment and interventions for both the abusing parent and abused child is necessary.
With these efforts, protection for ordinary people against crime and prevention of repeated offenders is also required.
Most importantly, the enactment of the Home Violence Special Act(tentative name) is most required to root out child abuses in homes.
