An unstiffened top and seat angle connection is the one type of semi-rigid connections, which is appropriate for the construction of low and medium rise steel structures. The unstiffened top and seat angle connection represents various connection behaviors according to seat angle connection types, thickness of a top angle, and bolt gage distance.
Therefore, this study was conducted to predict the initial stiffness of an unstiffened top and seat angle connection. To accomplish this purpose, several experimental tests were conducted. The main parameter of these experimental test was the thickness of a top angle. The initial stiffness was calculated from the regression analysis of the moment-rotation curves obtained from the experimental tests. In addition, the applicability of the Chen-Kishi model was verified by comparing the results obtained from the experimental tests with those obtained from the analytical model.
