It is urgent to demonstrate how the influence of the mass communication media on young boys and girls shows itself in detail in school life. However it is difficult to estimate how much influential the violence of the mass media is based on ordinary behaviors of the general students because statistical increases in number of the delinquent youth and in violent actions are not the general situations that could be seen in school life.
Frequent exposure to violence of the mass media could make the youth respond slowly to violences in actual life, motivate than to exercise violence when they get angry, and thus, generate antisocial offensive actions. The violences of the mass media exhibit the methods of procedures of crime and violence and make beautiful the leading characters of violent screens by making them a idol or a hero. This could cause the youth to do violent actions. In particular, young boys and girls who are in the process of development have a lot of opportunities to meet the mass media. Thus, screens could influence the youth directly or indirectly about offense and the young generation is highly possible to be potentially delinquent.
The present study, on the basis of theories of this nature, examined the influence of violence screens of the mass media on the youth demonstrated in school life. The study investigated the influence by analyzing novels written by students. The result of the study shows how violent screens of the mass media take their positions in students as a potential misconducting increnation.
40.5% of the students wrote novels about criminal investigation or mystery stories and all mystery novels dealt with murder cases. 52.3% of the mystery novels of others writings dealt with death of the leading characters or other figures and 37.8% of the reasons for death were murder. However, many people in their novels. Though the youth are highly possible to be potentially misconducting, it is not right to say that a person who commits murder in his/her writing is always violent.
We should remove bad environments given to the youth before we condemn their misconducts. Adults should first demonstrate gentle and important lifes to be dear. We should not show selfish mind for only ourselves and spiritless features of life that give up ourselves. We must meet every young person with out true hearts as Fabre observed a trivial insect or worm with admiration and love.
Our youth are not yet tainted with vice as the society sees then. They learn and know little by little.
The influential power of the mass media for the youth is definite. The mass media are quite attractive for the youth because they can select and learn the media freely as they keep themselves away from their parents and teachers who have restricted themselves for a long time.
We know that the mass media have good functions as well as dysfunctions. I sincerely hope that the mass media to be positive and active in guiding our youth to the right way by utilizing their good functions.
