The present study examined the relationship between self-esteem and the two major personality factors, i.e., positive and negative emotionality factors. Rosenberg`s Self-Esteem and Tellegen`s short-version of the Multidimensional Personality Questionnaire (MPQ) were administered to 1,579 elementary, 991 middle, and 598 high school students. The seven scales of Tellegen`s short version of the MPQ, that is, Wellbeing, Achievement, Social Potency, Social Closeness, Stress Reaction, Alienation, and Aggression loaded on the Positive and Negative Emotionality factors as expected. The correlational results indicated that self-esteem was positively related to the Positive Emotionality factor and negatively to the Negative Emotionality factor. No significant gender difference was found in the magnitude of the relationship between self-esteem and the Positive and Negative Emotionality factors. The magnitude of correlations between self-esteem and the Positive and Negative Emotionality factors did not vary with age.
