“내 아이, 우리 가족을 위해서라면…”: 모성을 동원한 맘카페의 성소수자혐오 담론 = Mobilizing Motherhood to hate: Mothers’ Anti-LGBTQ+ Discourse in Online Mom Cafes

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 온라인 맘카페에서 활동하는 ‘엄마’들의 성소수자혐오 담론과 이에 전제된 규범적 질서를 비판적으로 탐색한다. 가부장적 가족주의, 국가주의, 신자유주의적 경쟁 논리 속에서 모성 역할을 부여받으며 주체화된 한국 어머니들은 성평등 도서, 성교육 등 아동/청소년 관련 의제에서 성소수자혐오를 실천하는 주요한 행위자 중 하나다. 맘카페 게시물 분석 결과, 이들의 혐오에는 모성이 동원되었으며, 혐오 실천을 통해 ‘좋은 어머니 노릇’을 수행하는 순환 구조가 작동하고 있었다. 보건학적 안전과 국가 안보, 부계 혈통 중심 재생산, 시스-이성애규범적 생애주기, 보수적 유교 질서 등에서 일탈했다고 간주되는 성소수자들은, ‘취약한’ 아동/청소년과 어머니 여성에게 유해하며 ‘나의’ 가족, 국가에 존재해선 안 되는 타자로 재현됐다. 이러한 발화는 아이가 상징하는 미래적 가치, 공정성 기반 역차별 담론 등을 경유해 정당화되었으며, 온라인 공간에 머무는 것이 아니라 조직화된 집단행동으로 이어졌다. 이 연구는 기존에 간과되었던 모성과 성소수자혐오의 연결고리를 밝히고자 했으며, 대항 담론의 가능성과 모성을 조건화하는 구조의 근본적 변화 필요성을 제언한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study critically explores anti-queer discourse among “mothers” participating in Korean online parenting communities (mom cafes) and the normative order it produces. Korean mothers, subjectified through the ascription of maternal roles within patriarchal familism, ethnonationalism, and neoliberal logic, are among the key actors enacting anti-LGBTQ+ hatred around youth-related issues. Analysis of mom cafe posts reveals a self-reinforcing logic whereby the performance of “good mothering” is constituted through and validated by the enactment of anti-queer hatred. Constructed as threats to national health, patrilineal reproduction, and Confucian moral order, sexual minorities are framed as dangers to “vulnerable” children and adolescents, and as subjects who must remain outside “my” family and nation. Such discourse is justified through the imagined future value of children and reverse discrimination narratives based on fairness, and extends beyond online spaces to organized collective action. This study seeks to illuminate the underexplored nexus of motherhood and sexual minority hatred, and proposes counter-discourse and the necessity of structural change in the conditions that shape motherhood.
