어떤 돌봄이 ‘좋은 돌봄’인가: 공화주의 비지배 자유 개념을 중심으로 = Good Care and Freedom as Non-Domination: A Republican Approach to Care Ethics

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 ‘어떤 돌봄이 좋은 돌봄인가’라는 물음을 중심으로, 돌봄윤리 논의에서 제기되는 규범적 정당성의 문제와 돌봄 관계의 도덕적 정당화의 토대를 고찰한다. 이를 위해 필립 페팃(Philip Pettit)의 공화주의를 분석 틀로 삼아, 돌봄의 윤리적 특성을 존중하면서도 그 실천 과정에서 간과될 수 있는 규범적 쟁점을 검토한다. 돌봄윤리는 인간의 불가피한 의존성을 긍정하며 자유주의적 개인주의의 한계를 보완해 왔지만, 돌봄제공자의 주관적 태도에 과도하게 의존하거나 관계 유지를 위해 수혜자의 예속적 상황을 묵인할 위험도 내포한다. 본 논문은 이러한 문제를 평가할 규범적 준거로서 페팃의 비지배 자유 개념과 그 직관적 척도인 시선응시 테스트를 제시하고, 이것이 돌봄윤리의 한계를 보완하는 기준이 될 수 있음을 논증한다.

This study examines the question of “what constitutes good care” by focusing on the problem of normative legitimacy in care ethics and the moral justification of care relations. It adopts Philip Pettit’s republicanism as an analytical framework to explore normative issues that may be overlooked in the practice of care, while still respecting the ethical characteristics of care. Care ethics has affirmed the inevitability of human dependency and has complemented the limitations of liberal individualism. However, it also carries the risk of relying excessively on the subjective attitudes of caregivers or tolerating the subordinate conditions of care recipients in order to preserve relationships. This study proposes Pettit’s concept of freedom as non-domination, along with its intuitive measure, the eyeball test, as a normative criterion for evaluating such situations. It argues that this framework can serve as a complementary standard that addresses certain limitations within care ethics.
