디지털메타포환경의 발달과정과 그 활용범위에 관한 연구 = The Development of the digital metaphor environment and it applications

The constant development of communication since the invention of letters has led to a digital media environment which we are witnessing today. Digital environment which started from the early computers displayed only by letters and numbers and called high speed computing machine has evolved, in a few decades, into a level in which not only the display of graphic image but also of moving picture became possible. The control environment of the computer has also rapidly evolved into an image-centered symbolic code which is called an icon or a window. The control mechanism based an images, which is called graphic user inter face (GUI), has enormously influenced the computer environment and accelerlated the digitalization of our society. Recently, the images displayed on the game machines or the digital TV as well as the computers is being provided as multi-sense-stimulating informations that respond to five senses, which goes far beyond the GUI settings. The digital media which will lead the 21th century will continually develop, expanding the scope of the human activities from a geological space into a virtual space.
