Plasma ceruloplasmin was purified from the horse serum by method of DEAE-cellulose adsorption, DEAE-cellulose chromatography and hydroxylapatite chromatography. The purified ceruloplasmin and whole horse serum were injected into rabbits. The resulting anti-sera were tested for reactivity with serums of mammalian species and chicken. Reactivity was detected qualitatively by immunodiffusion and immunoelectrophoresis.
The elution profiles of horse ceruloplasmin demonstrated that this protein might be composed of at least two subunits. The structure of antigenic determinants of horse ceruloplasmin is considered to be quite different from those of other mammalian species.
