      다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study is a literature research to clarify the cognitive strategy of Christian counseling against ‘unwanted intrusive thought.’(UIT) Most people who experience UIT are very embarrassed when it occurs due to its involuntary, accidental, and intrusive nature. Fear cam also arise when the content of UIT is irrational, negative, shocking, catastrophic or cruel, frighteningly sinful thoughts. Thus, people who experience UIT perceive it as an abnormal symptom and use their own cognitive strategies to oppress, suppress, avoid or defeat it. However, failure of cognitive inhibition and avoidance strategies can lead to psychological disorders and lower quality of life. Chronic UIT is a symptom that must be treated because it can be transmitted to psyco-neurosis such as obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, mental depression, generalized anxiety, PTSD, stress disorder and schizophrenia.
The purpose of this study is, to analyze preceding studies about UIT and organize the concept of Christian counseling, seeking to identify the use of cognitive resources (spiritual resources) as a cognitive strategy to overcome UIT. The researcher dealt with three things as cognitive strategies (1) acceptance strategy, (2) focused distraction strategy as well as reinforcement of incompatible behaviors and (3) use of cognitive resources (means of grace) as a Christian counseling method. Acceptance is an important strategy because having an overly hostile or confrontational attitude towards UIT can exacerbate it. Even if UIT occurs, it is important to take a non-reactivity toward it. In addition, since UIT is only an idea that does not appear as an act, people should think in a convergent way. Focused distraction is an effective cognitive strategy that focuses on other thoughts to overcome UIT. Utilizing ‘spiritual resources’ and ‘means of grace’(repentance, prayer, the Bible recitation, hymn, imagery, etc.) to overcome UIT is a therapeutic method that reveals the characteristics of Christian counseling.
