다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article discusses the meaning of prospect theory in international relations, focusing on its interpretation of international cooperation debate between neorealism and neoliberalism and security debate between offensive realism and defensive realism. Prospect theory emphasizes the need to consider relative losses based on a nation's loss aversion in cooperation debate. Also in security debate, prospect theory examines the theoretical explanatory power of offensive realism and defensive realism in terms of a nation's status-quo bias. This article confirms the explanatory power of prospect theory in the cases of China's road to the Korean war in 1950, Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990, and the first North Korean nuclear crisis in 1994. Finally, this article discusses prospect theory's influence on the theory of international relations and its possibility for theoretical development.
