스포츠이벤트 개최에 대한 공리주의적 접근과 한계 = The Critique of Utilitarianism Theory Concerning Sports Events

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The reason of attraction and host of sports events in local autonomous entities are the economical values such as the promotion of tourism, the expansion of civil infrastructures, expenditure increase and job creation, and the social and cultural values such as the public information to local community and enhancement the community image. In this study, on the assumption that utilitarianism had supported the host of sports events with theory, the limits of that approach would be indicated. It was a basic premise of utilitarianism that 'the greatest happiness of the greatest number'. Sports events had been opened for the purpose of the greatest happiness to the local resident in both quantitative and qualitative sides on that premise. The present sports events was justified with utilitarianism in the economical efficacy, social and cultural sides as popularity and universality. The limits of the utilitarian approach to sports events were considered in three directions. First, was it possible to measure the happiness from sports events? Second, how the happiness from sports events was divided? Third, was the good of the happiness from sports events justified the right of sports events? In the utilitarian approach to sports events, it would be necessary to make up for the weak points in that approach.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

각 지방자치단체에서 스포츠이벤트 유치 및 개최에 몰두하고 있는 이유는 관광 활성화, 기반시설 확충, 소비 증대 및 고용창출과 같은 경제적 가치와 지역에 대한 홍보 및 이미지 개선과 같은 사회․문화적 가치에서 찾아볼 수 있다. 이 연구에서는 이러한 스포츠이벤트 개최를 뒷받침 해 주는 이론을 공리주의로 가정하였다. 이러한 가정 하에 스포츠이벤트에 대한 공리주의적 접근의 한계는 무엇인지 알아보고자 하였다. 공리주의의 기본 전제는 ‘최대 다수의 최대 행복’이다. 스포츠이벤트는 이러한 공리주의적 전제에 따라 양적이고 질적인 측면 모두에서 지역사회 주민들에게 최대한의 쾌락을 선사하고자 하는 목적에서 진행되고 있다고 할 수 있다. 현대의 스포츠이벤트는 경제적 효용성 측면에서, 대중성과 보편성이라는 사회․문화적 측면에서 공리주의적으로 정당화 되고 있는 것으로 보인다. 스포츠이벤트에 대한 공리주의적 접근에 있어서의 한계는 세 가지로 정리할 수 있다. 첫째, 스포츠이벤트를 통해 얻을 수 있는 쾌락은 측정 가능한 것인가라는 문제가 있을 수 있다. 둘째, 스포츠이벤트를 통해 얻은 쾌락은 어떻게 분배될 수 있는가라는 문제가 있을 수 있다. 셋째, 스포츠이벤트를 통해 얻은 쾌락이 좋다고 해서 그것을 옳다고 할 수 있는가라는 문제가 있을 수 있다. 결론적으로 스포츠이벤트에 대한 접근에 있어서 공리주의적 접근과 함께 그 한계를 보완할 수 있는 접근방법의 모색이 필요하다고 할 수 있겠다.
