The study explores Ferda Kolatan's architectural concepts of Misfits and Hybrids as innovative approaches to reinterpreting inefficient or deteriorating urban elements. Grounded in Object-Oriented Ontology (OOO), Kolatan’s framework challenges conventional architectural norms by treating cities as networks of autonomous entities. The concept of ‘Misfits’ refers to architectural components that deviate from traditional norms, prompting a reevaluation of established practices. ‘Hybrids,’ on the other hand, emerge from the fusion of diverse styles, functions, and materials, creating new forms that transcend conventional boundaries. The research highlights Kolatan’s methods— Hybridization, Real Fictions, and Defamiliarization—as tools for transforming historical structures and neglected urban spaces into dynamic environments that integrate contemporary programs while preserving cultural heritage.
These methods aim to revitalize local communities and economies while fostering sustainable urban development.
