The object of this study was to examine the sex role attitudes of the housewives (mother) and daughters in seoul, and whether mother sex role attitude had influence on her daughter's and the sociodemographic variables of mother had an effect on her daughter sex role attitude or not.
So, some following items was made in this study.
1. What was the tendency of the housewives (mother) sex role attitude in Seoul?
2. What influence had housewives' age, religion, education level, salary, employed or unemployed, kind of job and type of the decision-making of the couples on the housewives sex role attitude?
3. What was the tendency of the adolescent daughter sex role attitude in Seoul?
4. Did the mother sex role attitude have influence on the daughter's?
5. What influence had mother's age, religion, education level, salary, employed or unemployed, kind of job and type of the decision-making of the couples on the daughter sex role attitude?
Questionnaires were given to randomly selected mothers and daughters in Seoul in september, 1983. Data from the 384responses was analyzed by percentage, mean, standard deviation, F-test and t-test.
It was found that;
1. Generally, the housewives in Seoul had traditional sex role attitudes. In division, they showed the modernest attitude in job roles, but they were traditional in familial roes and sex stereo types.
2. The housewives who were educated the higher level, paied the higher salary and employed in professional job had the moderner sex role attitudes. Age, religion, employed or unemployed were not variables to have influence on the mother sex role attitude.
3. The adolescent daughters in Seoul had moderner sex role attitude than that of their mothers. In division, they had the modernest sex role attitude in job role, but they were traditional in familial role.
4. Mother sex role attitude had influence in the daughter's. That is, the daughter sex role attitude brought up from the mother who had the modern sex role attitude was modern, too, and the daughter sex role attitude raised from the mother who had the traditional sex role attitude was traditional, too.
5. The daughter sex role attitude was influenced by the mother's sociodemographic variables. The daughter sex role attitude brought up from the mother who was educated the higher level and employed in professional job was modern. But mother's age, religion and employed or unemployed had little influence on the daughter sex role attitude.
From these results I suggest following;
1. The problem of the sex role attitude is concerned with both men and women must be studied together. It's why, even though the women's sex role attitude is modern if the men's attitude is unchangeable, the home and the society have difficulty to solve the problem,
2. The school, society and mass media must together try to correct the prejudice of sex role and especially home must. It is the reason that, as this study showed the result of the sex role attitude, mother sex role attitude had strong influence on the daughter's. So, mother must have the nomal and mature view of life.
3. To do so, women education is very important and agent. It's why momen's high education level makes mother and her daughter have modern sex role attitude.
