A Study on Promotion Schemes of Local Agricultural Cooperative Union

The purpose of this study was to investigate the role and problems of institution and legislation, cooperative members that is root of cooperatives, credit business, and economic business based on analysis of activities of local agricultural cooperatives through review of previous studies and literatures. The analysis result of four main categories showed that most studies one was aspect of cooperative members and followed by institution and legislation, economic business, and credit business. Especially, the decrease in number of cooperative members due to rapid decrease in agricultural population and their aging calls for urgently the policies concerning the number of cooperative members and their welfares. These results suggest, considering these realities, that the aspects of institution and legislation to organize these problems more structurally, therefore, to maintain the number of agricultural population and cooperative members has became increasingly more important to The agricultural cooperatives are facing pressures to change their roles to establish competitiveness enough to support advocate cooperative members and their welfares and demonstrate their values in current Korean rural circumstances. The results of analysis also showed that, for the local agricultural cooperatives to develop into a local center, they need to improves internal capability to understand needs of cooperative members and satisfy them rapidly and accurately, to establish partner relationship among members considering possibilities of sharing legislation, institution, organization, and activities, and to contribute to increase of agricultural incomes by develop and implement economic businesses suitable for local condition, and finally, to seek development of local agricultural cooperative and local society.
