This study was to investigate pain coping response in high school athletes. This study used sports inventory for pain coping response(SIP) of Meyers et al(1992) and A type personality test of Seo(1995), trait sport-confidence inventory(TSCI) of Vealey(1986). This study was to investigate 1) pain coping response in high school athletes, 2) significant differences in according to athletic performance levels, personality, injury-potential, sex, injury-potential, athlete career. The participants were 207 elementary school athletes(male: 106, female: 101) in the C city and K city. The conclusions obtained from this study; Personality type indicated that A personality type score higher in direct coping, cognitive, body awareness, total coping response(p<.05) subscales to reflect the positive dimension than B personality type. Athletes competing in high injury-potential events scored lower in catastrophizing, avoidance(p<.05) than athletes in low injury-potential events. In pain coping response in according to sex, Males scored lower than female in avoidance(p<.05). Pain coping response on athletic sport-confidence levels indicated that high sport-confidence scored higher in direct coping, cognitive, total coping response and lower in avoidance(p<.05) than low sport-confidence athletes. Athletes with high athlete career(2, 3 years) scored lower in catastrophizing, avoidance(p<.05) than athletes with low athlete career(under 1 years).
