유리조형에서 신화적 이미지를 차용한 가면작품에 대한 연구 ╶ 포스트모더니즘 관점에서╶ = A Study on the Glass Mask Objects Using Mythical Images ╶ Perspective of Postmoderrnism╶

국문 초록 (Abstract)

현대 유리조형에서 원시부족의 신화적 이미지를 차용하여 가면 작품에 표현한 유리작가 윌리엄 모리스와 프레스톤 싱글터리는 그들의 민족 신화와 인디언들, 소수민족의 삶과 주술적인 의미의 토템 등을 새로운 소재인 유리로 그들만의 다양한 해석과 의미부여로 작업화 하였다.
분석 심리학자인 융의 원형이론을 바탕으로 가면은 인간의 또 다른 인격이며 무의식속 욕망을 담고 있다. 그러한무의식속 욕망은 융의 집단무의식의 원형으로 신화적인성격을 내포하고 있고 신화는 억압된 인간의 심리와 감정 그리고 충족되지 못한 욕망을 비유를 통해 표현된다.
이처럼 신화는 무형의 이야기이고 그러한 무형의 모습을유형으로 표현한 인간의 모습을 하고 있는 것이 가면이며 인간을 중심으로 신화와 가면은 상징성을 띈 소통의관계로 볼 수 있다. 융의 원형이론을 기반으로 신화적 이미지를 차용한 그들의 가면 작품은 인간의 기원, 인간과자연 사이의 영원성을 내재된 원형의 상징물로 본 연구자는 판단한다.
