Increasing numbers of very young children are being served in more formal, academic instructional settings at home. On the basis of these concerns, the present study surveyed the current state and parents` perception of very early education at home. Questionnaires were mailed to 2600 parents and 2137 responeses were received. Major findings were that over 86% of the parents reported providing very early educational activities for their children at home or at an institute. Over 3 different kinds of activities were noted. The most highly ranked lessons in order of frequency were Han-gul, math and English, all begun at a very early age in preparation for formal schooling. Mothers` perceptions of very early education were related to expenditure outlay and the number of lessons.
