조손가족 조부모 우울의 실태와 작용기제에 관한 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 조손가족 조부모의 우울이 상대적으로 어느 정도 심각하며, 조손가족 조부모로서의 경 험이 어떤 작용기제(mechanism)를 통해 조부모의 우울에 영향을 미치는가를 고찰하고자 수행되었다. 이를 위해 첫째, 조손가족 조부모의 우울 정도를 살펴보았으며 이를 비조손가족 조부모의 우 울과 비교하였다. 둘째,`우울에 대한 무망감 이론` 과 우울을 비정시적 역할전이에 따른 스트레스 의 결과로 설명하는 `생의 사적 관점`을 근거로 조손가족 조부모의경험이 어떤 작용기제를 통해 우 울에 영향을 미치는가를 분석하였다. 이 연구는 2차 자료를 이용한 사회조사 연구로 설계되었으며 분석 대상자는 조손가족 조부모 66명과 비조손가족 조부모 259명을 포함한 325명의 65세 이상 조부모들로 구성되었다. 자료분석은 기술분석, 교차분석, t-test, 일반선형모형분석, 위계적 다중 회귀분석을 통해 이루어졌다. 분석결과, 조손가족 조부모는 평균 중등도 이상의 심각한 우울을 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 조손가족 조부모의 우울정도는 비조손가족 조부모와 비교해 유의미하게 높은 것으로 나타났다. 우울형 귀속양식과 조손가족 조부모 경험 사이의 상호작용 효과는 무망감에 유의미한 영향을 미치지 못하는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 무망감 이론의 주장과 달리, 조손가족 조부모의 경험이 우울형 귀속양식과의 상호작용을 통해 무망감 형성을 유의미하게 중개(moderate)하지 못한다는 것을 의미한다. 반면 조손가족 조부모의 경험은 조부모의 우울에 직접적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과는, 조손가족 조부모의 경험은 무망감 형성을 중개함으로써 우울에 간접적으로 영항을 미치기보다, 생의 사적 관점이 제시하는 바와 같이 비정시적 역할로써 조부모의 우울에 직접 적으로 영향을 미친다는 것을 실증한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of the presented study was to investigate the profile of depression and the mechanism of depression among custodial grandparents. The conceptual framework for this study was driven from the hopelessness theory which insisted that depression resulted from hopelessness which was developed by an interaction between stress and attributable characteristics, as well as life course perspective which insisted that stress from off-time duty caused depression. The sample consisted of 259 non-custodial grandparents and 66 custodial grandparents. I employed general linear model, hierarchial multiple regression, and cross analysis to test the hypotheses. The result showed that becoming a custodial grandparent was not significantly associated with depression through hopelessness. However, the result confirmed that becoming a custodial grandparent directly effected on depression at a significant level. This study revealed that helping custodial grandparents through reducing the stress from off-time duty, which was raising grandchildren would be an effective strategy to improve mental health of custodial grandparents. This study would be valued in that it identified the intervention point for mental health of custodial grandparents.
