산업클러스터 육성을 위한 지역개발정책에 관한 연구 - 충청북도의 중부고속도로 주변 지역을 중심으로 - = A Study on Regional Development Policy for Promoting Industrial Clusters - The Case of the Surrounding Areas of Jungbu Highway in Chungbuk Province

The targeting of regional industrialization programs at specific industries is a popular national and local economic development strategy. Firms in a particular industry often are located in close proximity to each other. In this paper a statistical procedure for detecting "contagious" location patterns for manufacturing establishments is presented. The exponent k of negative binomial distribution is presented as an alternative concentration index. Knowledge-based industries' establishment clustering tendencies are ranked based on the "dispersion parameter" of the negative binomial distribution. The findings indicate that knowledge-based industries are spatially clustered in Chungbuk Province. The surrounding areas of Jungbu highway in Chungbuk areas may be markedly advantaged in developing a manufacturing with establishment clusters. The current industrialization policy focused on information technology and biotechnology industries-that is, industry-cluster promotion-must be continued a regional development strategy.
