The image of Russia impressed in Korean people in the late Yi Dynasty was an underdeveloped imperial state with despotic government and an imperial country with invasive nature. The Russo-Japanese War was regarded as evidence of this image. As the U.S.S.R.had emerged with the image as a country of workers and peasants since the Russian Revolution, Japan kept Korean people from inclining to the U.S.S.R by waging an intelligence and ideological war that brandedtheU.S.S.R.as``aninvasiveredimperialism. After the Russian Army advanced to the North Korean area, the U.S.S.R. reemerged as a liberation army, a friendly and favorable country, and an advanced cultural country. Having the tasks of national construction and unification ahead, the North Korean regime needed full support and cooperation from the U.S.S.R., and therefore, it had to wipe away the image of the U.S.S.R. as underdeveloped imperialism and invasive red imperialism from North Korean citizens``mind.Through the government``s image strategy, the U.S.S.R. cast off its old image as a country of underdeveloped imperialism and invasive red imperialism, and born again as an embodiment of peacefu internationalism realizing the ideal of socialism and as an advancedculturalstate. After the North Korea-Soviet Union Agreement on Economic and Cultural Exchange, the North Korean government waged a full-scale campaign for absorbing Soviet culture by designating ``The Ten-Day Period for Korea-Soviet Union Friendship and Soviet Culture`` and ``The Month of Korea-Soviet Union Friendship.`` While ``The Ten-Day Period for Korea-Soviet Union Friendship and Soviet Culture`` in 1949 improved Korean people``s goodwill toward the U.S.S.R. and motivated them to absorb advanced Soviet culture,``TheMonth of Korea-Soviet Union Friendship`` in 1955 was planned so that North Koreans might internalize Soviet culture into their own. After experiencing the month, North Korean residents resolved that they would be born again as a new type of humans who,``like Soviet people,``are fullof enmity against the enemies, are aware of their identity as workers, and give priority to the revolution over personal interests. The core ofthe image of``SocialistU.S.S.R``thatthe North Korean regime tried to adoptin the fanaticalboom ofSoviet culture was the single leader system centering on Stalin. Having the national tasks of the war and post-war restoration and reconstruction ahead, the socialist human image, which gives priority to the interests of society and the state over personalinterests and strives for construction under the leadership of Stalin, was engraved repeatedly into North Korean people through Soviet Russian poem, novels and movies. Furthermore, Kim Il-seong``s leadership was reinforced by the image ``the Soviet Union`` under the leadership of Stalin.
