Perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells have attracted significant attention as a promising next-generation photovoltaic technology due to their potential to surpass the efficiency limits of conventional single-junction silicon solar cells. Among various tandem configurations, two-terminal (2T) monolithic perovskite/Si tandem solar cells offer advantages such as a simple device architecture, series electrical connection, and high theoretical efficiency. However, unlike four-terminal (4T) tandem devices, 2T tandem solar cells require the two sub-cells to be electrically connected in series through an interconnection layer (ICL). Consequently, the ICL must simultaneously provide efficient charge recombination, low electrical resistance, and high optical transparency, particularly in the near-infrared (NIR) region.
In this study, the properties of indium tin oxide (ITO) used as the ICL were optimized to enhance the electrical and optical performance of high-efficiency tandem solar cells. To achieve an optimal balance between charge transport, recombination efficiency, and optical transmittance, the effects of tin doping concentration, sputtering deposition temperature, and oxygen incorporation via reactive sputtering on the thin-film properties were systematically investigated. By maintaining the carrier concentration of ITO at approximately 1.0 × 1020 cm⁻³ and introducing a small amount of oxygen (~0.5%) during sputtering at deposition temperatures above 150 °C, an optical transmittance exceeding 96% and a sheet resistance below 300 Ohm/sq were achieved. As a result, a high current density exceeding 19 mA/cm2 and a tandem solar cell efficiency above 28% were successfully demonstrated.
In addition, to optimize agrivoltaic photovoltaic systems, PVSYST simulations were conducted to analyze the effects of module tilt angle, array pitch, and module type on power production and ground-level irradiance. By applying bifacial tandem solar modules optimized for vertical agrivoltaic configurations which provide the highest ground irradiance and PPFD it was confirmed that power generation can be increased compared to conventional monofacial photovoltaic modules. Furthermore, the required module installation area was reduced, leading to an approximately 20% reduction in shading ratio. These results demonstrate the strong potential of bifacial tandem solar cells as an effective solution for enhancing both energy generation and agricultural productivity in agrivoltaic systems.
