무형문화재와 기억담론 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 칠석동고싸움놀이를 중심으로 주변화된 기억담론의 복원과 다중성 고찰이란 주제로 논의를 진행한다. 칠석동고싸움놀이는 한국을 대표하는 민속놀이로서 중요무형문화재 제33호로 지정되었다. 하지만 과거에 고싸움놀이를 행했던 다른 지역에서는 칠석동고싸움놀이가 지닌 문화의 원형성과 대표성을 부정하는 담론이 계속되고 있다. 이러한 현상은 단순히 칠석동고싸움놀이에서만 나타나는 현상이 아니다. 많은 무형문화가 전국민속예술경연대회를 통해서 사람들에게 소개되었고, 입상할 경우 일정한 심사를 거쳐서 무형문화재가 되었다. 이 과정에서 무형문화의 변개가 발생하였다. 무형문화재는 국가와 민족의 정체성을 담고 있는 문화재로 선전되었고, 원형성과 대표성을 획득하게 되었다. 하지만 과거 무형문화재와 유사한 문화를 향유했던 사람들을 중심으로 부정의 담론이 형성되었다. 과거 칠석동과 근거리에 있던 남평읍에서도 고싸움놀이가 행해졌다. 하지만 칠석동고싸움놀이는 외부 지식인들의 관심과 선택으로 무형문화재가 되었고, 외부의 관심과 선택에서 배제된 남평고싸움놀이는 전승이 끊기게 되었다. 과거 남평고싸움놀이에 참여했던 사람들은 칠석동고싸움놀이에 대한 존재까지 부정한다. 이러한 극단적 담론은 남평고싸움놀이 주체들의 문화적 소외에서 파생된 결과라 할 수 있다. 칠석동고싸움놀이가 국가지정 중요무형문화재로서 원형성과 대표성을 획득하기 위해서는 과거 고싸움을 행했던 지역의 사람들의 경험과 기억을 끌어 모을 수 있어야 한다. 다중성 차원에서 주변화된 기억담론을 활성화 시키는데 칠석동고싸움놀이가 활용된다면, 건강한 무형문화재로서 모습을 갖춰가게 될 것이다. 이러한 고민이 확장된다면, 현재 무형문화재 제도가 지닌 취약성을 보완하면서 역동적인 문화의 장으로서 무형문화재가 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This article reviewed restoration and multiplicity of marginal recollection discourse focusing on Chilseok‐dong Gossaumnori. Chilseok‐dong Gossaumnori is a representative folk play and is designated as Important Intangible Cultural Properties No. 33. However, there have been discourses rejecting originality and representativeness of the culture that Chilseok‐dong Gossaumnori has in other areas where Gossaumnori had been played in the past. This phenomenon is not restricted to Chilseok‐dong Gossaumnori. Many intangible properties have been introduced to people through National Folk Arts Contest and what are selected in the contest can be Intangible Cultural Properties. Through this process, alteration of intangible assets was made. Intangible Cultural Properties were advertised as cultural properties which contain identity of the nation and the people and they acquire originality and representativeness. However, negative discourses have been composed among people who had enjoyed culture similar to the Intangible Cultural Properties in the past. In Nampyung‐eup near Chilseok‐dong, Gossaumnori was enjoyed. While Chilseok‐dong Gossaumnori was designated as Intangible Cultural Properties thanks to the attention and choice of external intelligences, Nampyung Gossaumnori became extinct
