평생교육의 오래된 새 길 = An Old New Paradigm of Continuing Education

국문 초록 (Abstract)

인문학이 골목 안으로 들어와 대중화의 길을 걸으며 대규모 성인들을 모으고 있지만, 그 성인들을 학습자가 아닌 청중으로 환원하면서 어떤 의미에서 학교교실에서 행했던‘실패한’인문학의 길을 또 다시 노정하는 것 같은 인상을 준다. 자본이 인간을 다만 값싼 일회성 노동도구로 전락 시키는 신자유주의적 맥락에서 인문학은 학습자의 맥락을 비판적으로 읽고 재구성하려는 시도로서의 교육학적 실천성을 결여한 탓에 성인 노동자들에게 치유나 힐링 그 이상의 역할을 하지 못한다. 이러한 양상은 평생교육이 인적자원개발론과 성찰적 인문학이라는 두 모순적 진영 사이를 진자 운동하듯 오가며 성인들에게 현재적 맥락을 바꾸어 낼 수 있는 실천적 비젼을 비추는 데 소홀한 사이에 발생한 현상이기도 하다. 이 같은 맥락에서 본고는 평생교육의 전환학습 이론이 인문학적 성찰성과 조우하여 인적개발론이 추동한 끊임없는 자기계발을 멈추게 하고, 현재적 맥락을 전환하는 데 주력하는 전환학습적 인문학으로 선회할 것을 주장한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Humanities as a discipline has been popularized to gather adult learners on a large scale recently. However, it seems to repeat its failure within the “Ivory Tower” by making adult learners just passive “listeners” as it did on campus. In the context of neo-liberalism where human beings are exploited as disposable instruments for the sake of maximizing capitals, humanities does not provide answers or critical perspectives with those adult learners since it lacks the practical faculty to criticize and reconstruct the reality that all adults are situated in and suffering from. Instead, it just gives the sense of “being healed” or "being consoled". On the other hand, while continuing education has been shuttling between humanities and human resource development, which are quite opposite in terms of defining the meaning of human beings as the goal and the means, respectively, it came to neglect the reflectivity that is essential for human beings to change their living conditions In this vein, the author of present study insists that adults' transformative learning combined with humanities halt the self-directed developmental culture/trend encouraged by the human resource developmental orientation and turn around its head toward "transformative humanities" to help people criticize and change their oppressive contexts under the regime of neo-capitalism.
