재창조(re-invention)로서의 리메이크 : <현기증>의 계승과 변형으로서의 <환송대> = Remake as Re-Invention －<La Jetée>, as a Succession and Transformation of <Vertigo>－

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper aimes to show the alternative approach of film remake through the analysis of similarities and differences between Hitchcock’s <Vertigo> and its remake <La Jetée> by Chris Marker, by examining its distinction from a common way of film remakes, sharing of storyline. Marker interprets <Vertigo> as ‘the vertigo of time’-through his ingenious reading-and re-invents it as a new film with a whole other story structure. For this, Marker conjugates ‘the spiral image’, the visual motive of ‘the vertigo of time’ similarly, but differently. He also expands the temporality of <Vertiog> to the future and to the time undefinable and creates the revival of infinite scissions of time and characters who live in time. Marker accomplishes the core time-image, the Deleuzien notion of ‘the cinema of the brain’ by implementing crystalline, regime. Enfin, We can consider <La Jetée> as re-invention which changes the quality itself of image, from movement-image to time-image by reflecting upon the problematics of relation between memory and time in <Vertigo>.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 히치콕 감독의 <현기증>과 이 영화의 리메이크인 크리스 마커 감독의 <환송대>의 유사성과 차이점에 대한 분석을 통하여 스토리라인을 공유하는 일반적인 리메이크와의 차별성을 고찰함으로써 영화에서의 리메이크의 대안적 방식을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 마커는 <현기증>에 대한 독창적인 독해를 통해 이를 과거와 현재 사이의 ‘시간에 대한 현기증’이라 해석하고, 전혀 다른 이야기구조를 지닌 새로운 영화로 재창조 한다. 이를 위해 마커는 <현기증>의 시각적 모티브인 ‘나선형 이미지’를 유사한 의미로, 그러나 다르게 변주시키고, 과거와 현재로 이중화된 <현기증>의 시간을 미래로, 또 정의할 수 없는 ‘시간의 외부’로 확장시켜 시간과 그 시간 안에 내재되어 거주하는 인물의 무한한 분열을 창조해낸다. 또한 <현기증>이 아직 의존하고 있는 운동-이미지의 유기적 체계로부터 벗어나 결정체적 체계를 구현함으로써 진정한 의미의 시간-이미지, 사유의 영화를 완성하고 있다. 마커의 리메이크는 <현기증>의 인물들의 기억과 시간의 문제에 대한 성찰을 바탕으로 스토리, 인물의 변화를 넘어서는 이미지의 속성 자체를 바꾸는 재창조라 할 수 있을 것이다.
