This study compares and analyzes engineering education curriculum of seven universities in South Korea according to Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea (ABEEK).
First, as for the first factor for accreditation criteria of ABEEK, the education goal of each university is divided into the two groups: one is to educate professionals engineers and the other is, creative engineers.
Second, in terms of education curriculum, every university arranges the minimum credits of each area to satisfy guideline of ABEEK. Specifically, MSC and credits of major fields are similarly opened. However, each university has different courses of professional liberal arts.
Third, accreditation criteria for engineering education of ABEEK improves education quality of students who enter the university that follows those criteria and various other engineering qualities as well.
In conclusion, although accreditation program of engineering education has some short points, it is expected to increase students' participation and to help universities to educate students effectively and eventually will increase the national competitiveness. Therefore, more execution of accreditation program is realistically necessary. Furthermore, to continue the accreditation evaluation of engineering education to educate good engineers, consistent endeavors will be needed to reinforce its fundamental framework.
