담화표지 '막'의 기능 연구 = (A) Study on the Function of the Discourse Marker 'mak' in Korean

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고에서는 젊은 화자들의 대화를 전사한 자료를 주된 텍스트로 삼아서 그 속에서 자주 등장하는 담화 표지 ‘막’의 담화 기능을 밝혀 보았다. 본고에서는 담화 표지 ‘막’이 양태 부사 ‘마구’에서 왔음을 전제하고 논의를 진행하였다.
2장 1절에서는 양태 부사 ‘막’에서 담화 표지 ‘막’으로 변하는 과정을 통해 ‘막’이 가진 여러 의미 중에서 시간 부사가 아닌 양태 부사가 담화 표지로 변한 이유를 여러 예문을 통해 살펴보았다.
2절에서는 양태 부사 ‘막’과 담화 표지 ‘막’의 비교를 통하여 담화 표지 ‘막’을 구체화시켰는데, 양태 부사 ‘막’과 담화 표지 ‘막’이 한 문장 안에서 함께 쓰일 수 있으며, 담화 표지 ‘막’은 선행 담화와 음성적으로 결속하는데 이는 ‘막’이 선행 정보와 한 덩이가 되어 ‘막’ 뒤에 쉼이 실현된다는 것임을 밝혔다. 또한 담화 표지 ‘막’이 화자의 임의대로 담화 상에서 사용되는 선택적 자질이므로 문장에서 생략되어도 의미 전달에 큰 손상을 입지 않으나 양태 부사 ‘막’은 문장 안에서 일정한 역할을 수행하기 때문에 생략되면 의미에 손상이 있음을 나타내었다.
3절에서는 담화 표지 ‘막’의 기능을 다루었는데 기능을 다루기에 앞서 자료에 나타나는 ‘막’의 분포 실태를 조사하여 표로 제시하였다. 다음으로 담화 표지 ‘막’은 담화 내에서 여러 가지 기능을 수행하는데 다음과 같다.
첫째, 담화 표지 ‘막’은 선행 발화와 후행 발화를 의미적으로 연결하는 기능을 한다. 이러한 선·후행 발화의 의미적 연결에는 ‘막+인용 동사’, ‘연결어미’, ‘선행 발화의 일부를 명확히 함’, ‘그래서, 그러니까+막’, ‘선행 발화의 보충 설명’ 등의 기능들이 포함된다. 둘째, 담화 표지 ‘막’은 전경과 후경의 경계 표시의 기능이 있다. 셋째, 담화 표지 ‘막’을 사용하여 선행 발화가 생략되기도 한다. 넷째, 담화 표지 ‘막’은 발언권의 유지 기능이 있다. 다섯째, 담화 표지 ‘막’은 화자의 심리적 태도의 표출의 기능을 갖는다. 이는 양태 부사 ‘마구’가 갖는 부정적인 원뜻에서 유래한 것으로 담화 표지가 물론 원래의 어휘적 의미를 상실하고 담화 상에서 잉여적으로 사용되는 것이기는 하지만 원래의 어휘적 의미로부터 완전히 자유로울 수 없기 때문에 나타나는 기능이라고 볼 수 있다.
4절에서는 앞서 제시한 담화 표지 ‘막’의 기능을 점검해 보기 위하여 한국어의 담화에서 활발하게 사용되고 있는 담화 표지 ‘이제’와 본고에서 연구하는 담화 표지 ‘막’을 비교하여 연구해 보았다. 마지막으로 3장 결론에서는 지금까지의 연구 결과를 요약하고 이러한 연구가 갖는 의의와 한계를 제시하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The aim of this study is to explicit function of discourse marker 'mak' that it was used in usual conversation, accepted by young speaker's dialogue, in this article I made progress argument to set forth beforehand that discourse marker 'mak' came from 'ma-ku'.
In first section of chapter 2, throughout course that skip from adverb 'mak' to discourse marker, among mean of 'mak' 'mak' inquired into cause why does adverb changed to discourse marker 'mak' by example.
In second section of chapter 2, throughout compare with adverb 'mak' and discourse marker 'mak,' I concretized about discourse marker 'mak'. So adverb 'mak' and discourse marker 'mak' can be used in sentence at the same time, discourse marker 'mak' band together precede conversation invisible, it was proved that break was realized, while 'mak' and precede information get to be one body. Also it is selective quality that discourse marker 'mak' is used in voluntary conversation. So it couldn't be damaged in a sense, but it was showed damage if an adverb of manner are omitted, for an adverb of manner are excelled certain role in sentence.
In third section of chapter 2, I examined function of discourse marker 'mak', before I conducted function of 'mak', I suggested table that it is examination of distribution of 'mak' and then discourse marker 'mak' can be play a all kinds of role in sentence. it is same next.
First discourse marker 'mak' has function that it connect between precede conversation and post conversation in a sense. In this like, meaningfully connection of precede conversation and post conversation are include in that, 'mak+quotation verb', 'connective the ending of a word', 'certain about partially precede conversation', 'graseo, grunikka+mak', 'explain about precede conversation' and the like. Second, discourse marker 'mak' has a function to mark boundary of foreground and background. Third the precede conversation can be disappear make use of discourse marker 'mak'. Fourth discourse marker 'mak' has a function to maintain the right of speaking. Fifth discourse marker 'mak' has a function to expose of psychological attitude by speaker. It came from negative originally meaning that an adverb of manner 'ma-ku' has itself. Also discourse marker has lose originally meaning and it is used in surplus. But it is not able to free from original vocabulary meaning. Therefore it must be appeared.
In fourth section of chapter 2, I made a comparative study between discourse marker 'ice' and 'mak', to check function of discourse marker 'mak'. Finally, in chapter 3 I summed up this study result and I suggested significance of study, limitation of this study.
