죄의식의 기원과 발달에 관한 소고

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 사고와 행위 사이의 가교로서 인격자의 삶에 에너지를 제공하는 도덕적 추진체인 ‘정서’ 가운데에서도 죄의식에 초점을 둔다. 죄의식은 양심을 위반하였을 때 발생되는 대표적인 도덕적 감정 중의 하나로, ‘불안’과 ‘억압’이 그 중심을 이룬다. 죄의식은 주로 도덕규범을 벗어나려는 욕망이 과도할 경우에 자동적으로 초자아로부터의 문책이 가해져 발생한다. 또한 죄의식은 출생 후부터 발생하기 시작하여 ‘실존적 죄의식’(existential guilt)이라 부르는 마지막 4단계로 발달하게 된다. 죄의식의 기원과 발달은 초등학교 도덕교육에 다음과 같은 시사점을 제공해준다. 첫째, 죄의식은 매우 이른 시기에 공감 능력의 형성과 더불어 발달하기 때문에 도덕교육에서는 초등학생들의 공감 능력을 발달시키는데 일차적인 관심을 기울일 필요가 있다. 둘째, 죄의식과 수치심은 발달적 기원에서 차이가 있기 때문에 그를 감안하여 각기 다른 접근을 모색해야 한다. 셋째, 죄의식은 긍정적인 면과 부정적인 면을 동시에 함축하고 있기 때문에 초등학생들의 죄의식을 지나치게 자극하는 것은 바람직하지 않다. 그리고 끝으로, 어디까지나 도덕적 행위를 실천하는데 필요한 에너지원으로서 죄의식이 작동할 수 있도록 접근할 필요가 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This essay has specially focused on the guilt among the moral emotions which provide the energy to a living life. The guilt springs up when we violate a conscience and is composed with anxiety and oppression. If a desire for escaping the norms overflows, the guilt also occurs. Furthermore, the guilt develops from 1st stage to the last stage 'existential guilt'. The origin and development of guilt offers the following suggestions. First, as the guilt develops from very early years with empathy, an elementary moral education must focus on the progressing of empathy. Second, as the origins of guilt and shame are different, we must consider different educational approaches. Third, the guilt has positive and negative aspects simultaneously, we must be careful not to stimulus students' guilt too much. Lastly, we need develop the educational approaches that the guilt can be operated as necessary energy resources for moral action.
