      An analysis of STS matrial in chemistry and physical chapters of high school common science textbooks. Science-Technology-Society(STS) has been a trend of direction of science. In sixth curriculum common science textbook was composed contents reflected STS spirit. The major purpose of this study was to examine chemistry and physical chapter in high school common science textbooks, and analyze STS materials.
      The result of this study are as follows:
      1. In chemistry chapter of high school common science textbook, 24.4% of the total page space in average devoted to STS materials. In physical part 22.4% of the total page space in average devoted to STS materials.
      2. In chemistry part 45.5% of STS materials was included in chapter ˝modern science and technology˝, 38.7% in ˝environment˝, 29.1% in ˝energy˝, and 14% in ˝materials˝.
      In physical part 39.5% of STS materials was included in chapter ˝environment˝, 31.2% in ˝modern science and technology˝, 24.2% in ˝energy˝, and 13.7% in ˝force˝3. STS materials are analyzed by STS topics by Piel(1981).
      In chemistry part 38.3% of STS materials were the topics on environmental quality and utilization of natural resource, 29.6% on sociology of science, 23.6% on effect of technological developments, 7.9% on energy, 0.6% on human engineering, and there was no topic on population, space research and national defense.
      In physical part 45.2% of STS materials were the topic on sociology of science, 23.9% on environmental quality, 19.3% on effect of technological developments, 11.1% on energy, 0.5% on human engineering, and there was no topic on population, space research and national defense.
      4. In chemistry part the topics on energy was included in ˝Energy˝ and ˝Materials˝ chapter. Human engineering was included in ˝Energy˝ and ˝Modern science and technology˝ chapter. Environmental quality and utilization of natural resource was included ˝environment˝ chapter greatly and included ˝Energy˝, ˝Material˝ chapter partly.
      Sociology of science was included in every chapter, but it has the most portion in Material chapter. Effect on technological development was included in ˝Modern science and technology˝ chapter greatly.
      In physical part the topics on energy was included in ˝Energy˝ chapter greatly, human engineering in ˝Force˝ chapter, environmental quality and utilization of natural resource in ˝Environment˝ chapter greatly. Sociology of science was included in every chapter, but it has the most portion in ˝Force˝ chapter. Effect on technological development was included in ˝Modern science and technology˝ chapter greatly.
      5. STS materials were analyzed by using SATIS student.
      In chemistry and physical part most of the activities were research, case study, and there were no field activity. role playing, problem solving and decision making and research design.
