‘인턴십 과정모형’을 활용한 대학생 해외인턴십 실태 분석 : 미국 워싱턴 D.C. 지역을 중심으로 = An Analysis on the Overseas Internship of College Students Using ‘Internship Process Model’: A Case of Overseas Internship in D.C.

This study attempts to figure out current state of overseas internship which has been rapidly increasing recently focusing on the preparation, internship experiences, and local life. Quantitative data were collected from 108 interns participating in overseas internship in D.C. This study has implications from new trial on identifying current state overseas internship targeting real participants rather than analyzing needs of internship leaders. The result shows students participated in overseas internship in order to enhance global job competencies than improve language skills. The most impressive experience was building global network, and the most difficult aspect was the burden of expenses. The results also introduce that selecting internship institutions appropriately is the most important for successful overseas internship, and the lack of linkage between internship and entry of workforce leaves much to be desired. This study suggests that substantiality of preparation process of internship, diversity of internship institutes, and the increasement of supporting expenses are required for improvement of overseas internship in the future.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 최근 급속하게 늘어나고 있는 대학생 해외 인턴십의 실태를 인턴들의 준비와 경험, 그리고 현지에서의 생활을 중심으로 파악하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 실태를 파악하기 위해 미국 D.C. 지역에서 해외 인턴십에 참여한 한국 대학생 108명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 이처럼 사업 주도자의 측면에서 요구 등을 분석하는 것이 아닌, 해외 인턴십의 실질적 참여자를 대상으로 한 실태조사는 처음 진행된다는 점이 이 연구의 의의로 볼 수 있다. 실태 조사한 결과, 학생들은 어학 능력 향상 보다는 전공 분야의 국제적인 업무 능력 향상을 목적으로 인턴십에 참여하였다. 인턴십 과정에서 가장 좋았던 점은 국제적인 네트워크를 형성하는 경험을 한 것이었고, 가장 힘들었던 점은 인턴십 경비 측면의 부담감이었다. 성공적인 해외 인턴십을 위해서는 인턴십 기관을 잘 선정하는 것이 가장 중요하고, 인턴십 과정에서 가장 아쉬웠던 점은 인턴십과 향후 사회진출간의 연계성이 부족한 측면이었다. 향후 정부나 대학의 해외 인턴십 개선을 위해서는 인턴십 준비과정의 충실화, 인턴기관의 다양화, 인턴십 지원 경비의 증액 등의 측면에서 보완이 필요한 것으로 분석되었다.
