EBS강의 수강 시간이 사교육비에 미치는 영향 = 국어, 수학, 영어 교과별 비교를 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구는 한국교육종단연구 2～5차년도 자료를 이용하여 사교육비 경감 및 계층 간 교육 격차 완화 정책의 일환으로 지속적으로 강화되어 온 EBS강의 효과를 분석하기 위한 것이다. 이를 위하여 연구에 참여한 학생 중 3,727명을 대상으로 국어, 수학, 영어 교과별로 EBS강의 수강 시간이 사교육비에 미치는 영향을 성장모형(growth modeling)을 사용하여 분석하고 그 결과를 비교하였다. 연구 결과, 초기치와 성장률에서 학생의 성별, 중학교 소재지를 기준으로 한 지역 규모, 아버지와 어머니의 최고학력, 로그 월 소득을 모두 통제한 상태에서는 국어 교과에서만 EBS강의 수강 시간이 사교육비 경감에 통계적으로 유의미한 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 EBS강의 운영 실태를 교과별로 보다 면밀히 분석ㆍ개선함으로써 국어, 수학, 영어 등 모든 교과에서 EBS 강의 활용도를 높이면서 사교육비를 경감하는 데 기여할 수 있도록 노력해야 함을 논의하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of EBS KSAT lectures consistently enforced as one of the policies for reducing private tutoring expenses and narrowing the scholastic disparity between social classes by using Korean Education Longitudinal Study(KELS) data from 2006(2nd year) to 2009(5th year). Based on the 3,727 students data from KELS, the effects of the hours spent watching EBS lectures on private tutoring expenses in Korean, Mathematics, and English were analyzed and the results of the analysis in each subject were compared. The results showed that only in Korean the hours of watching EBS lectures had a significant effect on reducing private tutoring expenses both in the initial value and growth rate when student gender, the size of the region where the school is located, parents" academic background, and household income per month were controled. This indicates that further investigations should be followed to carefully analyze how EBS lectures in each subject are operated in order to improve EBS lecture system substantially. That way, not only can students" hours spent watching EBS be extended to all subjects but also EBS can contribute to a significant reduction in private tutoring expenses.
