‘미술의 종말’ 이후의 미술관 역할과 정책 = The Role and Policy of Museum after 'the End of Art'

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this paper is to elucidate the role and policy of museums of the day. The role of museums keep paces up with times, especially the idea of visual arts of those days. The idea of contemporary arts has changed after the erosion of modernism's values. We need a proper idea of contemporary arts to define the role of museums of today. We analyze Arthur Danto's idea of contemporary arts to find a valid concept of arts and museums of the day. His theory of arts not only adequately explains arts of today as the pluralistic scenes of contemporary arts, but also demands changes of art museums.
First of all, We analyze the relations between the idea of visual arts and museums of those days. Second, We elucidate Danto's theory of arts and then draw the idea and role of museums of today from his theory. Thirdly, according to his concepts of contemporary museums, we try to define the policy in connection with the exhibition and collection in museums of today. I conclude that the proper roles of today's museums can be found through A. Danto's end of art thesis and their policies can be carried out in the pluralistic way.
