상호문화교류학습을 통한 글로벌 장소감 형성

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

We are living in an era of ‘Globalization’ arising from a phenomenon which has been called ‘time-space compression’. More countries and people are linked by a wide range so that we need to rethink our sense of place. The extended notion of sense of place could be called ‘Global sense of place’ We also need a new paradigm for education in this global society, that is an education which figures out the interdependence and inter-relationship. Having a well-balanced regional image and a perception without prejudice, is very important in this global world.
Therefore, this study explores how intercultural exchange programs can play a role in students’ development of a global sense of place and intercultural competence by action research method. So it is concluded that students developed an increased interest in South East Asia. Also, the negative image of South East Asia changed to a positive perception through intercultural exchange. Secondly, the unfavorable perception towards South East Asia was due to students’ lack of background knowledge and unfamiliarity. Thirdly, the intercultural exchange program could have built and developed inter-dependence and inter-connection between the students so that they could have a mutual sense of solidarity. Such solidarity is deeply related with a global sense of place, and a global sense of place can be constructed by an understanding of linking place to place. In summary, students’ intercultural understanding about South East Asia could have changed the image of the region and that leads to an extended sense of place that is global sense of place.
