The main theme of the novel of Yoon Dae Nyung shows the reflection about the existence through the pattern of travel. This traveling of inside searching for the true ego intends the eternity and ideal world, evading from the reality.
The Buddhist reasoning shown at his novel reveals as the circular structure, and this circulation can be the creation, extinction and replay motif of rotation or living creature. Also, the Buddhist imagination has the aspect of circulation, and it is juxtaposed through the sweetfish, etc that comes back to their mother's stream.
Next, he dug into the problem of emptiness and loss of karma, the problem of life and death according to karma. By the lesson of Buddhism, all the pain, sorrow, meeting and separating which the humans experience in the world are from karma, not by chance. Here, the desert may be a substantial approach, but the urban space itself transforms into the desert. The temple is juxtaposed as the place that is the target of eternity or mental reasoning tacitly and the place that shows the way to self-exploration. The sea is the place of source of living creature and the place that restores primitiveness and mythical sacrifice to the reality. In his novel, the male speaker(the first person) attempts to make relations with the women he met accidently. But, it ends with the crossed over relations all the time, and the pain and sense of forfeiture may show the instability that has to live with imperfectness and agony of the human being here.
