한국 정보산업의 공간맥락 = Spatial Contexts of the Information Industry in Korea

This paper aims to show the evidences of spatial contexts in the growth of information industries at the province level in the Republic of Korea. The information industry is widely acknowledged and defined as a dynamic driver sustaining the economic growth of regions, and placed much importance on its sharply increased contribution to the increase of GDP in various regions. In this paper, the concept of spatial contextual growth of the information industry in Korea primarily relates to the existence of spatial concentration or specialization followed by urbanization or localization economies. This paper analyses those statistical data published by the Korean Statistical Information Services and the Bank of Korea to draw out the spatial patterns of information industries in Korea by the shift-share analysis method. The analysis shows strong urbanization economies of information industries in Korea.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

정보산업은 정보산업은 ‘정보’(information)라는 무형의 자산(assets)을 사용하여 경제적으로 가치 있는 정보상품과 서비스를 생산 또는 가공하여 유통하는 경제활동(economic activity)이다. 정보산업은 전 세계적으로 지속적인 경제성장의 원동력이자 한국을 포함하여 여러 국가의 급증하는 국가 부 형성에 가장 많이 기여하는 산업으로 그 중요성을 인정받고 있다.
본 고에서 취급하는 정보산업의 공간 맥락적 성장은 주로 정보산업의 지리적인 공간 집중이나 정보산업의 성장이 도시화 또는 지방화 경제인지 등 정보산업의 지역 특화와 관련이 있다.
본 고는 정보산업이 광역시도별 공간 맥락적 집중이나 분산, 집적을 통해 어떠한 성장 곡선을 그리는지를 국가 전체와 16개 광역시도별로 구분하여 통계청과 한국은행의 연도별(time series) 자료와 지역특화 존재 여부를 판별하는 변화할당분석(shift-share analysis)을 각각 사용하여 정보산업의 성장 추세(trends)를 살펴보고 정보산업이 미래 성장동력으로서 국부 형성에 공헌할 수 있는 의미 있는 역할을 찾아낸다.
분석 결과 한국 정보산업은 21개 전체산업 중 상위 6개 산업이며 특히 성장성, 수익성, 안정성 면에서는 다른 산업보다 월등하게 앞서 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 광역자치단체 중 서울과 경기에 정보산업이 집중되어 정보산업의 수도권 공간 맥락적 편재로 인해 지방화 경제보다는 도시화 경제(urbanization economy)가 강력하게 작용 중임을 발견했다.
비수도권 광역단체는 정보산업 성장이 더딘 것은 지속적인 지역 차이가 누적된 결과와 관련이 있는 것으로 판명이 되었고 지방 정보산업은 아직 사양산업으로 전락하지 않은 상태인 것으로 나타나 발전잠재력이 있음을 확인했다.
