세계시민주의에 대한 헤겔의 입장과 타자성 ― 칸트의 세계시민주의와의 연관성을 중심으로 ― = Hegel`s Position on Cosmopoitanism and the Otherness - Focused on it`s relation to Kant`s Cosmopolitanism -

국문 초록 (Abstract)

헤겔은 일반적으로 민족국가(nation-state)의 틀을 벗어나지 못한 사상가로서 그리고 세계시민주의와 이것의 정치적 실현을 위한 국제적 연맹체 설립에 비판적이고 회의적인 사상가로 알려져 있다. 또한 동시에 헤겔은 흔히 세계시민주의나 국제관계에 관한 이론의 면에서 칸트와는 대척점에서 있는 인물로 묘사되곤 한다. 그러나 필자는 이 논문에서 모든 인간이 기본적으로 인간으로서 동일한 권리를 가지고 그 구성원으로 참여하는 세계 공동체에 대한 지향을 헤겔이 지니고 있었으며, 또 그런 점에서 그는 결코 세계시민주의에 반하지 않을 뿐 아니라, 오히려 냉엄한 국제정치적 현실에서 세계시민주의의 이상을 실현하는 데 있어 중요한 통찰을 제공한 사상가로 재정립되어야 함을 주장하고자 한다. 같은 맥락에서 이 논문은 헤겔이 특히 칸트의 세계시민주의를 전적으로 반대하고 있지도 않다는 것을, 그리고 지구상의 많은 국가와 민족들의 문화적 차이와 타자성에 대해 칸트에 비해 더 많은 고려를 함으로써, 칸트의 입장을 보완하고 세계시민주의의 실질적 구현에 기여할 수 있는 이론을 제시하고 있음을 밝히고자 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Hegel`s Philosophy is often regarded as antagonistic towards cosmopolitan thought and as opposite to Kant`s cosmopolitan conception of a peaceful world order. In this paper, I will account for the possibility of a cosmopolitan reading of Hegel`s philosophy and claim that Hegel offers us a subtle and differentiated view of cosmopolitanism despite of his critique of Kant`s cosmopolitanism. Furthermore I show Hegel gives an understanding of a cosmopolitanism that takes global differences and diversity into account and contains realist-nationalist concerns. First, I reconstruct and investigate Hegel`s critique of Kant`s cosmopolitanism in order to gain a clear view of Hegel`s position on cosmopolitanism and to present how Hegel integrates the difference and particularity of diverse peoples and cultures into his position. Secondly, I argue for the possibility of a cosmopolitan reading of Hegel`s philosophy by analyzing and interpreting his thoughts concerning cosmopolitan principles. Finally, I conclude by showing that his position provides us with reasonable and useful insights for realizing the cosmopolitan ideals in the globalized world.
