마미 증후군의 임상 양상을 보인 환자에서 발견된 흉추 수막종 1예 = A Case of Thoracic Spinal Meningioma Presenting as Cauda Equina Syndrome

The objective of this study was to report a patient with thoracic meningioma who had an unusual presentation
of cauda equina syndrome. A 75-year-old woman had suffered from diabetes mellitus type 2 and
stroke last year. Two months ago, she had begun to experience weakness together with altered sensitivity
in the both leg. Nerve conduction studies revealed abnormalities in motor and sensory nerves of lower
extremities. Needle electromyography showed abnormal spontaneous activities in the paraspinal muscles
at T10-T12, L1-S1 and in some examined muscles of both lower extremities. Most muscles below L4
level revealed abnormal motor unit action potential. Magnetic resonance imaging of thoracic spine
demonstrated spinal meningioma at T1 levels. During the post-surgical period, the incomplete paraplegia
regressed. In case of slowly-developing paresis of the legs in polyneuropathy should not be diagnosed
without careful consideration and rare spinal tumors should be considered as a part of the differential
diagnosis.
