[論文] 윤치호 『우순소리(笑話)』의 필사본 『소성(笑聲)』

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 글은 윤치호(尹致昊)의 『우순소리』를 국한문(國漢文)을 혼용하여 필사한 『소성(笑聲)』을 살펴본 것이다. 『우순소리』는 1908년에 대한서림에서 발행하였지만 ‘치안과 풍속’을 해친다는 이유로 금서(禁書) 처분을 받았다. 윤치호는 이 책을 1910년에 미국 하와이의 신한국보사에서 다시 발행했다. 그렇지만 이 책은 국내로 반입되지 못했다. 이후에 실본(實本) 『우순소리』가 확인되면서 이 책의 성격이 확인되었다.
그렇지만 이후에 이 책을 둘러싼 유통의 문제는 다루지 못했다. 하지만 필사본 『소성』이 확인되면서, 금서 처분이 이루어진 뒤에도 국내에서 이 책이 읽혔고 유통되었음이 확인되었다. 전체 26면으로 된 필사본 『소성』은 필사기를 통해서, 일제강점기에 현재 대구 지역의 계성중/고등학교의 전신(前身)이었던 계성학교의 재학생이 1917년 음력에 필사했다는 사실, 필사 과정에서 저본(底本)이 되었던 것은 1909년에 처음 발행되어 금서 처분을 받았던 대한서림(大韓書林)본이라는 사실이 확인되었다.
그동안 『우순소리』는 발행한 뒤에 전량 수거되어 폐기되었다고 알려졌지만, 필사본의 존재를 통해서, 금서 처분을 받은 뒤에도 읽혔다는 사실을 알 수 있다. 이 글에서는 이러한 필사본 『소성(笑聲)』, 그리고 두 차례에 걸쳐 발행된 『우순소리』에 대해서 살펴보았다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Yoon Chi-ho’s Woosoonsori was banned in 1909 for harming the “security and customs.” Since then, most of the books have been collected in Korea, and the original have not been confirmed. For this reason, there have been several assumptions about the nature of the book that it may be a joke book or a metaphorical novel. However, the discovery of the Korean Book of Seorim, 1908 held at Toyama University in Japan, solved the curiosity about the book.
However, as this copy was confirmed, conflicting views were submitted on this material, and points to be supplemented in the study were also suggested. The main issues are which of the Fable or the La Fontaine Fable was translated into a translated version and whether this book can be viewed as a translated version. Meanwhile, the Woosoonsori was re-published in 1910 by the New Corporation in Honolulu, Hawaii, after a embargo was imposed in 1909, but the issue was not discussed because it was difficult to confirm the data.
Recently, the Overseas Cultural Heritage Foundation under the Cultural Heritage Administration has investigated Ham Oh-yong’s materials held in The Charles E. Young Research Library in UCLA, USA. He was the first generation to immigrate to the United States as a sugarcane worker. While investigating his data, he discovered two species of 『 』, which were published by Shinhan National Treasure. If you look at the publication of Shinhan National Treasure, you can see the history of Yoon Chi-ho after he came to Hawaii and the circumstances of the re-publication, and there are some differences from the first Daehan Seorim version. In this article, I would like to develop a discussion based on these facts.
