The purpose of this study was to analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the 6th and 7th National amended Korean language arts curricula for elementary school. The results of the study were expected to provide a useful insight for the development of a new Korean language arts to prepare elementary school students for living in the knowledge-driven society. The study were proceeded as follows. (1) The internal consistency among curricular elements such as goals and objectives, contents, learning activities and evaluation within each curriculum was analyzed. (2) Considering that the knowledge must be the key word in the knowledge-driven society, the secondary analysis was focused on the meaning of the knowledge used in each curriculum. Epistemological view was also analyzed. The common findings on the 6th and 7th National amended Korean language arts curricula for the elementary school were summarized in the following. (1) Both documents explicitly expressed the development of creativity or thinking ability as the primary goals to be achieved in students. However, these goals were not reflected in other curricular elements in a consistent manner. (2) Epistemological view was not clearly shown on both documents. The meaning of knowledge was, therefore, not consistently reflected on other curricular elements.
