In this study, a total of 132 samples were collected from nine orchards located in four major astringent persimmon (Diospyros kaki Thunb.) cultivation regions in Korea to examine viral infections. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) was conducted using species-specific primers to detect two viruses (PeCV and PeVA) and one viroid (CVd-VI). Among all samples, 53 trees (40.2%) were found to be free of all three pathogens. The infection rates of individual pathogens were 29.6% for PeCV, 13.6% for PeVA, and 41.0% for CVd-VI (including co-infections). Distinct regional infection patterns were observed. In Cheongdo (Gyeongbuk Province), mixed infections (22 trees, 62.9%) were more frequent than single infections (13 trees, 37.1%), whereas in Yeongam (Jeonnam Province), only six trees showed single PeVA infection and 37 trees were pathogen-free. These results provide baseline data for understanding virus and viroid distribution in astringent persimmon orchards and may contribute to the development of virus-free propagation systems for elite genotypes.
