After returning to Shanghai in March 1921, the academic evaluation of Lee Kwang-su’s activities is compressed to the treachery, and the derogation and negative of the March 1st Movement. This is because the returning home, the ripples of “The National Reformation”, and the critical view of cultural movements that have escaped politics have reinforced the frame of disconnection before and after returning home. This article raises the issue of the frame of disconnection. Beginning with the whole of Lee Kwang-su’s literary activities and the trajectory of ideology in Shanghai, I clarified what the March 1st Movement was to Lee Kwang-su and how it was related to the literary activities and ideology before and after returning home. Lee Kwang-su, who witnessed the explosive power of the people who became aware of national consciousness in the March 1st Movement, sought to assemble this into the necessary capacity to prepare for the ability of independence. Tactically, it shows the transition from diplomacy to independence war and cultural movement according to internal and external circumstances and circumstances. But the theory of reform, represented by the article “The Reform”, was part of a more fundamental and long-term plan aimed at the formation of a nation with a competence and qualification to maintain and manage a country. Lee Kwang-su’s decision to return home was not due to frustration and skepticism about the impossibility of independence. Lee Kwang-su has seen the possibility of converging the power of the people who have been awakened to national consciousness since the March 1st Movement to the capacity necessary to prepare for the ability of independence in the cultural movement. And he had in mind the new literature movement and the national reformation movement as part of the cultural movement. After returning home, this is followed by the practice of new literature movement based on the folk art theory along with the national reconstruction movement. The national reform movement and the new literature movement were developed in the awareness of the existence of the people who emerged through the March 1st Movement.
