The local online shopping transaction volume has been experiencing a growth deriving from the development of online environments and e-commerce. According to the National Statistical Office in 2018, the total transaction volume for the online shopping industry had already surpassed a staggering 113 trillion KRW, taking up an 18.8% of the total retail sales, valued at around 464 trillion KRW, ergo noting it has steadily been
on the rise with a 20% growth rate annually. As the e-commerce market grows, online shopping malls are aggressively competing by implementing extreme marketing tactics to maximize profit. The mobile markets being onthe rise along with the convenient payment systems and comparatively low prices have contributed to its continuous growth. According to the National Statistical Office (KNSO), the number of closing independent businesses increased by 10.2% in comparison to last year, reaching 87.9%. [National Statistical Office 2018]. Only last year, 483,985 new independent businesses surfaced in the fields of wholesale retail/food industry, hospitality whereas a 425,203 had closed. Also, regarding the total online shopping transaction volume, the National Statistical Office announced in April this year, it had seen an increase of 17.2%, and also the mobile phone based shopping transaction volume had seen an increase of 23.8% due to the spread of mobile device usage and the enhancement of payment systems.
The purpose of the present research is to explore the different variables influencing the purchase intention related to online shopping mall sales, whereas focusing on how the online retail shopping malls have shown a
growth of 20% every year. We have conducted the research entertaining the idea of how online shopping malls implement diverse mainstream marketing methodologies to ultimately produce a gender-related effect on the individual’s personal tendencies leading to a mediating effect that generates the purchase intention. Taking into account individual tendencies such as Impulse Buying, Variety seeking, Sensation seeking tendency, need for cognitive closure, as being mediating variables, to study how the individual traits would have an effect on the gender factor to generate the purchase intention. A basic statistical analysis utilizing the SPSS 18 and AMOS 18 was implemented on the 309 survey questionnaires targeting individuals between the ages of 20-60 who had shopping online experience,where the factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis and the path analysis on the descriptive statistics were implemented to deliver the results. Research analysis pointed at Need for cognitive closure, Sensation seeking tendency, and Impulse Buying factors as having an effect on gender. The hypothesis of the need for cognitive closure having an effect on the variety seeking factor was not supported, whereas the one regarding the factor of Sensation seeking tendency, and impulse buying having an effect on variety seeking was proven to be correct (adopted).
The hypothesis of variety seeking having a positive effect on the purchase intention factor was adopted likewise the need for cognitive closure was observed to have an effect on purchase intention. Over and above the gender element was divided into female and male to deliver the analysis material. By the same token, the gender of consumers flowing into the online shopping malls, as well as the niche to their individual tendencies, must be advantageously exploited to implement highly efficient marketing strategies to increase purchase intention that would eventually support the successful management of businesses.
