Wang Wei(王維 字 摩詰 701-761)is one of the major poets of the Tang Dynasty, acclaimed in particular for his limpid depictions of nature. Wang Wei was also a painter, and his reputation as a painter grew and endured. Most of those who have written on his poetry have found something of the painter ' s eye in his work. So Su Shi(소軾) said; "觀摩詰之詩, 詩中有畵." The most famous of these were written at his country home on the Wang River(輞川) in Lan Tien(람田), especially the quatrains of his 「Wang River Collection(輞川集)」 which describe twenty different spots on his estate. He is said to have painted a long continuous scroll of the same scenes. This subtle or bland aspect of his style led to his later elevation as the father of the Southern School of literati painters(南宗文人畵派). Shin Wie(申緯 號 紫霞 1769-1845) was also a very important poet and painter of Li Zho(李朝) Dynasty, and his most Jue Ju(絶句) poetry attained the state of fusion of mood and scene(情景交融), and it should strive for nuance (餘音), implicit meaning (言外之意), and the art of suggestion(含蓄). Now this comparative study on the artistic technique of these two poets ' poetry is very meaningful work, because I believe that this work can heighten the relative studying balance of Korean-Chinese classical literature.
