한국 정당연구의 비판적 검토 = Critical Review of Party Studies in South Korea: An Another Review for Polemic Critics

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 한국의 정당연구를 통해 표출된 정당조직 차원의 주요 논쟁들을 비판적 시각에서 재검토하고, 정당연구의 발전을 위한 새로운 연구 방향을 모색하는 데 주요 목적이 있다. 한국의 정당연구는 1987년 민주화와 더불어 정치발전을 위한 정당정치의 중요성이 강조되면서 서구 민주국가들의 정치발전과 정당정치에 관한 개념적 인식 및 이론적 모델의 적용을 통해 다양한 논의들이 활성화되었다. 그러나 한국의 정당연구는 정당조직 차원에서 아직도 정당정치의 위기를 상정한 정당 유형의 변화나 정당정치의 제도화 문제를 둘러싼 다양한 논쟁과 문제점들이 지적되고 있다. 결과적으로 한국 정당연구의 건설적 발전을 위해서는 정당연구의 한국적 정체성이 확립되고, 정당의 본원적 기능과 역할에 충실한 심층적 연구가 진행되어야 하며, 그동안 선거연구나 정책연구에 경도되었던 정당연구의 확충이 필요하고, 한국과 제3세계 후발민주국가들의 정당정치에 대한 비교연구가 활성화되어야 할 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to review the polemic arguments on party organization, which were recently revealed through the party studies in Korea, and to explore the ways toward new research direction for development of party studies. Since the 1987 democratization, party studies in Korea was vitalized for political development and democratic reform, which is centering around the conceptual application and diverse theories of party politics in Western democracies. However, in the dimension of party organization, Korea’s party studies is pointed out of various critics and problems around the change of party organization type and institutionalization of party politics in confront with crisis of party politics. Conclusionally, for the constructive development of party studies in Korea, there need to establish Korean identity of party studies, to perform the deepening research be faithful to fundamental functions and roles of political party, to expand the research subject and scope of party studies which was biased toward policy and electoral studies, and to vitalize comparative studies on party politics of Korea and the third world’s new democracies.
