This review study explored the importance of development of positive attitude toward reading on a child's reading ability. First, the role of the parents, teachers and peers on a child's experience of reading was discussed. The role of parents, teachers and peers were important for fostering a child's positive attitude toward reading in that they introduce a meaning, purpose and processes of reading activity to the child. Second, the role of a child's sex, age and the context were discussed. Depending on a child's sex, age and context, the reading attitude can be fostered differently. Finally, effective teaching methods for fostering a child's positive attitude toward reading were proposed, This review study should be extended for future empirical research on a child's development of reading attitude.
