The study tested how rapidly a change item in the change-detection task can be localized by measuring button-press and manual-pointing latencies to the change item. Subjects performed a change-localization task where a color change was always present in the test array. In the button RT task, they pressed one of four buttons orresponding to the position of a change item. In manual-pointing task, they pointed to a change item by touching the change item on a touch screen. Both latencies were delayed as the display set size increased. This indicates that a limited-capacity and presumably central process appears to be necessary for making a manual response in changedetection.
