‘유교민주주의’ 담론에 대한 여성철학적 성찰 = A Feminist Philosophical Reflection on the Discourse of 'Confucian Democracy‘

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 이제껏 논의되어 온 ‘유교민주주의’ 담론이 서구식 자유민주주의의 본질을 비판하는 속에서 새로운 민주주의 모델의 대안을 유학에서 찾고자 하는 시도의 중요성을 인정하는 데서 출발한다. 하지만 동시에 기존의 ‘유교민주주의’ 담론이 제시하는 유학과 민주주의가 만날 수 있는 지점, 내지는 서구 민주주의의 문제점을 넘어설 대안적 이론 근거가 성맹(性盲)적 한계를 지님을 지적하고, ‘유교민주주의’ 담론을 정교화하고자 한다.
본 논문의 중요한 문제의식은 민주주의에 관한 담론에서 성, 계급, 인종, 민족, 나이 등의 개별특수한 맥락이 중요한 것으로 존중되어야 한다는 것이며, 기존의 ‘유교 민주주의’ 담론에 이 같은 논의가 충실히 반영되어야 할 것을 요청한다. 즉 현대여성주의가 표방하는 ‘차이’ ‘돌봄’ 등의 철학 이론에 기반하여 ‘유교 민주주의’ 담론을 정교화할 필요가 있다는 것이다. 이 같은 논의를 통해 ‘유교민주주의’ 담론 지형을 심화, 확장할 수 있고 또 한국 사회의 정치적, 사회적 방향과 대안 모색에 ‘유교민주주의’를 효과적으로 반영할 수 있기를 기대하는 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper begins by acknowledging that the ‘Confucian democracy’ discourse is significant in that it seeks to find alternatives to the new democratic model while criticizing the nature of Western-style liberal democracy. However, at the same time, I emphasizes that the existing ‘Confucian democracy’ discourse points out the gender-blind limitations of alternative theoretical grounds that can meet with Confucianism and democracy or go beyond the problems of Western democracy.
The important problem consciousness of this paper is that individual special contexts such as gender, class, race, ethnicity, age, etc. should be respected as important in the discourse on democracy, and we ask that these discussions be faithfully reflected in the existing discourse on 'Confucian democracy'. In other words, it is necessary to elaborate 'Confucian democracy' based on philosophical theories such as 'difference' and 'care' that feminism advocates. Through this, it is expected that 'Confucian democracy' can be effectively reflected in the political and social direction and alternative search of Korean society.
