Container terminals are characterized by labor-intensive operations, which can lead to serious accidents in the event of an incident. While efforts are underway to fully automate container terminals at advanced ports, many still experience human-related accidents and disasters due to manned or semi-automated systems. This study examined harmful and risk factors associated with each container terminal operation and reviewed case studies and implementation tasks of new technologies in advanced ports. Subsequently, a survey was conducted to assess the feasibility and effectiveness of introducing seven new technologies (AI CCTV, IoT systems, drones, robots, power suits, VR safety education, and AR glasses) to enhance safety management at the Busan Port Container Terminal. A portfolio analysis was performed based on the survey results. Finally, various implications for the safety management plan of the Busan Port Container Terminal were presented, utilizing these new technologies.
